St. Anthony High School 2018 graduate Maurica Bailey describes how she applied STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) skills during her internship for the Maui Nui Seabird Recovery Project this summer during Friday’s 2018 STEMworks Summer Internship Showcase at the Maui Research & Technology Park in Kihei. Bailey was one of 31 students from around the state who participated in the six-week internship program. Bailey’s internship included gathering data on different types of seabirds at Hookipa and Molokini. She also made a 3D-printed part to enclose and angle a solar GPS tracker for pueo, or the short-eared owl endemic to Hawaii.
