St. Anthony School Staff Member Bio

Katie Hensley
First Grade A

katie hensley

Katie was born and raised in central Illinois, but fell in love with Maui when she and her husband were married here. She finally achieved her dream to live here full time and now enjoys all of the culture and natural beauty that Maui has to offer.

This is Katie’s first year as a first grade teacher at St. Anthony School, but she brings years of varied educational experience with her. She has a Masters of Science in Library and Information Science and spent the early part of her career as a children’s librarian and library administrator. Katie left the library to homeschool her own children, teaching grades kindergarten through third grade. After moving to Maui and enrolling her children in school, she taught reading and writing to students in grades four through eight and also worked as a private, in-home instructor in language arts. Katie is currently working on a Master of Education through the University of Hawaii at Manoa.

In her spare time, Katie enjoys reading, knitting, music, sports, and running. She has two amazing children and two pretty cute dogs. On the weekends, you’ll find them all walking on the beach or reading by the pool.

"I’m thankful for the sense of community and cultural blending that was part of St. Anthony. Only after going to the mainland, did I appreciate how fortunate I was to have grown up in this setting."
