Adree Sakamoto

1st Grade (1B)

“Inside every child is a rainbow waiting to shine”.  Adree was born and raised on Maui and graduated from St. Anthony Jr.-Sr. High School. She received her Associate of Science Degree in Human Development and Family Sciences from Linn-Benton Community College in Albany, Oregon. Teaching youngsters has always been her passion. Her experiences working with children began in the eighth grade through high school as a babysitter and volunteer at Christ the King Preschool, Maui. She worked in a Head Start Pre-School and Family Resource Centers in Washington State and Oregon.  For the past five years, Adree has been employed as a K-5 Reading teacher at Waihe’e Elementary School.

Her mother and her pre-school teacher have made an impact in her professional journey. They inspired her to make a difference in children’s lives. Adree recognizes the gifts and talents of each child which encourages them to be more confident in themselves. She incorporates her love for arts and crafts in her lessons. Adree is aware that there are struggles and thorns along the way, but those negatives can become positives. “What we learn becomes a part of who we are.”

"I’m thankful for the sense of community and cultural blending that was part of St. Anthony. Only after going to the mainland, did I appreciate how fortunate I was to have grown up in this setting."
