NHS Marian Chapter

The National Honor Society wanhss established in 1921 to
recognize outstanding high school students.  Under the leadership of Dr. Edward Rynearson, principal of Fifth Avenue High School in Pittsburgh, a national honor society was organized.  It has become a premier organization that is more than just an honor roll. The National Honor Society from its inception was regarded as a concrete way to promote high school academic standards, a means of ensuring the continuation of democracy and an instrument for the betterment of the individuals and the school. The principles of the National Honor Society are:  scholarship, leadership, service, citizenship and character.  These characteristics are exemplified through our participation in and planning of community service projects, the leadership positions students hold, and striving to promote scholarship through our afterschool tutoring program.  The Marian Chapter of the National Honor Society has been part of the St. Anthony’s Junior/Senior High School for over 20 years.
