Monthly Letter to the Parents

October

As indicated in our first newsletter for this school year, we on focusing on the Marianist characteristic to Provide an Integral, Quality Education for our students. I was struck by one of the Marianist documents which stated that “Education is more than the provision of education and instruction. It is the awakening of human creative potential; it is the building of endogenous (originating inside the body) capacities; it is forging attitudes of tolerance and understanding; it is providing individuals with the ability to master their own destiny.” What a powerful statement this is – we are being guided to educate the whole person, developing the student’s physical, psychological, intellectual, moral, social and creative qualities.

August was a month of orientation, novelty and adjustments. September has been a month of truly getting into the lessons and schedules. Along with the studies, teachers and staff have been addressing issues dealing with teasing, bullying and use of racial slurs. Sr. Leone made an excellent presentation on teasing and bullying to the Rookies as these negative actions appear to center on this particular group of students. Help us to eradicate this kind of behavior from our school.

In “The Lost Choice” by Andy Andrews, there is a discussion between a father and son about making right choices. The dad says: “Your character is your essence; it is what you are. Your character is determined by the choices you make when no one will ever know what you did…or didn’t.” “You must build your character daily and immediately. All blossoms of tomorrow, and all weeds as well, are in the seeds you are sowing today. Your influence, your wealth, and ultimately your legacy will be decided by this one thing. For ultimately, no person can ever rise beyond the restrictions of his own character.”

We have been working hard to improve and enhance the curricular offerings, support a qualified, competent and professional administration, faculty and staff and to develop adequate and attractive facilities – a safe, nurturing environment conducive to learning.
Help us to provide the guidance our students need to make the right choices.
