Aloha kakou,
Our teachers and students have been busy in numerous activities and sports events. A team of Rookies
consisting of Vanessa Coloma, Yusuke Yamagami, Sally Kawamura, Michael Kawamura, and Jonathan Ibanez, placed fourth in Math Count Competition with the help of our Math Department Chairperson, Mr. Paul MacLeod. Mrs. Daina Collins coached Jonathan Ibanez and Michael Kawamura who placed third and fourth in the County of Maui Spelling Bee. Teachers Stephanie Betancourt, Paul MacLeod and Sr. Sara Sanders have been working with our Science Olympiad team students Olivia Carbajal, Sally Kawamura, Michal Kawamura, Rey Ramirez, Jonathan Ibanez, Joey Cardoza, Amelia Imada, Yusuke Yamagami and Vanessa Coloma. They placed second in the Maui competition and will be heading for the State Science Olympiad competition on Oahu soon. Congratulations to the teachers and students for your hard work. We are so proud of you.
Our girls soccer team did a fabulous job in representing St. Anthony at the State Championship Soccer
Tournament. Many of them will be returning next year and they are definitely looking forward to a repeat performance to “states”. Our soccer boys took the Maui Division II Title and placed third in the State Championship Soccer Tournament. Bryce Mizoguchi and Christopher Maeda were named to the State Soccer All Tournament team. Congratulations and thank you to all the coaches and students for your dedication and hard work.
We had a wonderful opportunity to reach the Maui community via the radio. St. Anthony is in competition with other Maui high schools for “Championship of School Spirit”. Part of the competition was to showcase our school through a radio show hosted by alumni Jason Salmo ‘96. We had groups of our students, parents, teachers, administrators, and coaches, “talk story” during the program with JJ “The Funky Filipino”. We had four wonderful days of positive banter and conversation. We even took some of Aunty Betty’s Sweetbread to the radio station. Everyone did a spectacular job. We ended the week with a spirit rally with DJ’s from “ChillTown” pumping up the music and spirited students. Joining in the festivities were the faculty, staff, and administrators, who surprised everyone with their dance rendition of “JAI HO”.
On February 26, 2011 Murat Bicaki (Economics teacher) and I spent the day at a Robotics workshop. It
was exciting, interesting, and lots of fun. We worked on Brushrobotics and Letry robots. We programmed our robots to move when we clapped our hands or follow a set program. We also had fun with our Brushrobots in jousting and sumo activities. We will be offering two classes in robotics for the next school year and we will be participating in the VEX Robotics competition.
Our school community is thriving. We thank each and every one of you for your kindness, generosity, and
support. God bless you and your ohana.
Sincerely,

Patricia L. Rickard
