Catholic Schools Week
Wailuku—Mayor Charmaine Tavares signed a
proclamation on January 25, 2008 declaring the week of January
27th thru February 1st Catholic Schools Week on the island
of Maui. Various events are held throughout the week beginning
on Sunday. Teachers and staff from all of the Catholic schools
on Maui will gather for a special mass on Monday at St. Anthony
Church and will have the honor of having the Superintendent
of Catholic Schools in Hawaii, Dr. Carmen Himenes join them
as their guest speaker. The proclamation congratulates the
students, parents and teachers for their ongoing contributions
to education and for the key role they play in working toward
a brighter, stronger future for our island and state. It was
especially wonderful for the youth in attendance to have the
honor of meeting the Mayor whom is a product of Catholic education
having attended St. Joseph School in Makawao and graduating
from St. Anthony High School.
