Retreats
Each division experience a day of spiritual
growth with their peers as we take them to an off campus site
for their annual retreat. Every grade has a theme that helps
to develop the individual’s relationship with their
peers and God. This year’s schedule of retreats is included
below.
Class Retreats 2007-2008
A class retreat is a very special time for individual growth
as well as an opportunity for students to interact with their
classmates on a level different from that of the everyday
classroom. It is such an important time for each student that
class retreats are scheduled off campus and are mandatory
for all students. Each retreat is designed to provide for
growth in the spiritual, emotional and interpersonal realms
appropriate to the age group of the students. This year, students
who have participated in the LIFE summer program will be the
retreat facilitators for all class retreats except the senior’s.
The 12th Grade Retreat and the Senior Overnight Retreat will
be facilitated by adults.
7th Grade Retreat – I Am Someone Special
(September
13, 2007 - Waikapu Community Center)
This retreat helps the students see themselves as unique individuals
and to feel good about who God has made them to be. It is
anchored in the story of Zacchaeus found in the Gospel of
Luke (Luke 19:1-10). Like Zacchaeus, students learn that our
self-esteem is not limited to our physical characteristics
but is built on the gifts with which God has blessed us. God
invites us to use those gifts to build up our own self-esteem
and the self-esteem of others.
8th Grade Retreat - Peer Pressure (November 1, 2007 - Waikapu
Community Center)
This retreat focuses on what peer pressure is, why we give
in to negative peer pressure, and what we can do to resist
it. The Scriptural basis of the retreat is Luke 15:11-18:
the story of the Prodigal Son. In this parable students
learn how peer pressure can lead people to make poor choices
as well as good choices and that with God’s help we can
learn from our mistakes and make decisions for ourselves
.
9th Grade Retreat - Freshman Survival (August 23, 2007 - Waikapu Community Center)
During this retreat the Freshmen are offered tips and strategies
for coping successfully with the major changes they will experience
during their first year of high school. The retreat finds
its foundation in Genesis 12:1-9: the story of Abram. Students
can relate to someone who had to make a major transition in
his life and learn how to cope with the resulting changes
10th Grade Retreat - Celebrating Diversity (September 18,
2007 - Kahului Community Center)
This retreat addresses the issues that underlie prejudice,
stereotypes and racism and explores ways to diminish their
negative effects. In his letter to the Colossians (Col. 3:10-14)
St. Paul reminds us that all people are equal in God’s
eyes. Therefore, we are to treat everyone with love, compassion,
gentleness, and mercy.
11th Grade Retreat – Blessed are the Peacemakers (January
25, 2008 - Kahului Community Center)
During the time of this retreat students explore the causes
of injustice, and discover ways to become peacemakers. In
the story of Lazarus and the rich man, found in Luke 16:19-31,
Jesus reminds us to have compassion for others and, through
justice, to bring peace to the lives of others.
12th Grade Retreat – Male and Female in the Image of
God (November 13, 2007 – KCC)
This retreat invites the young women and men of the senior
class to see their sexuality as a gift from God and to learn
how to appropriately share that gift with others. In Genesis
1:26-31, God reminds us that we have been created male and
female in God’s own image. As God’s special creations,
we are challenged to share the gift of our sexuality responsibly
Seniors will also have a special overnight retreat toward
the end of their high school career. It is scheduled for April
21/22, 2008 at Camp Maluhia.
