Art Maui 2012: $2,500 scholarship from the Senior Art Scholarship Awards Program. Portfolio’s may be dropped off at the Schaefer International Gallery at the MACC on March 15, 2012 from 1pm to 5pm. Portfolios are limited to 10 artworks in any combination of 2D or 3D, in any medium such as a painting, drawing, photography, mixed media, small sculpture, ceramics and other small work in 3-dimensions. The Davidson Fellows Scholarship of $50,000, $25,000, and $10,000 is open to students who can demonstrate noteworthy achievements through the creation of a "significant piece of work" aimed at improving the lives of others in the areas of science, technology, mathematics, music, literature, philosophy, and outside the box. A "significant piece of work" is defined as an exceptionally creative application of existing knowledge; a new idea with high impact; an innovative solution with broad- range implications; an important advancement that can be replicated and built upon; an interdisciplinary discovery; an exemplary performance; and/ or another demonstration of extraordinary accomplishment. You must also be 18 years of age or younger as of October 4, 2012 and be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident. The American Museum of Natural History is offering a ($2,500) Young Naturalist Award to students in grades seven through twelve who are currently enrolled in a public, parochial, or home school. You must plan and conduct your own scientific expedition, one which will provide original data, questions, and observations on a topic in the natural sciences. The Big Dig Scholarship of $3000 is available to high school seniors. To be considered, you must submit an essay between 500 and 1000 words that addresses the following issue: "In 200 years, one of your relatives is going to be digging in what is now your backyard. They are going to find something that you buried in 2012, and it is going to put any financial worries they have to rest. Your job today is to decide what to bury. The Union Plus Scholarship of $500-$4,000 is available to union members and their spouses and dependent children. You must be accepted into an accredited college, university, community college, technical, or trade school; and have a minimum GPA of 3.0 to qualify for this award. The GE-Reagan Foundation Scholarship of $10,000 is available to high school seniors graduating Winter 2011 or Spring 2012. You must have a minimum GPA of 3.0, be a U.S. citizen and demonstrate exemplary leadership, drive, integrity, and citizenship at school, home, workplace, and within the community. The Healthy Lifestyles Scholarship of $5000 is open to high school seniors and first-year college students. You must be a citizen of the U.S. or Canada and be under 25 years of age to be eligible for this award. You must also submit a maximum 1000-word essay on the following topic: "Why is a healthy lifestyle important in school?"; and in under 500 words, describe your career plans, goals, and personal ambitions. Native Hawaiian Scholarship Fair and Dinner Free Event that is open to high school students, parents, teachers, adult students, enrolled college students, counselors and anyone interested in finding out more about sources of financial aid available for Native Hawaiians (including eligibility criteria and qualification requirements. Wednesday, Dec. 14 from 5:30-8:00pm at Maui College, Pilina Building.
Seton Hall University is offering over $20,000 in tuition savings to students who have a minimum 27 ACT composite score or a combined 1200 SAT (CR&M) with not less than 550 on either section, and who are in the top 10 percent of their high school class. Alliance for Young Artists & Writers is offering various scholarships for outstanding student art work that has been submitted. There is an entry fee of $5 per individual submission or $20 per portfolio. See Counselor about a fee waiver. 2D, 3D, photography, film and animation, and portfolio submissions will be accepted. See the counselor’s office for more details. Submissions must be in before Jan. 14.
The National Co-op Scholarship Program: $6,000 renewable scholarships for students with a GPA of 3.5 or higher, applying to one of the following universities: Drexel University, Johnson & Wales University, Northeastern University, Kettering University, Pace University, Rochester Institute of Technology, University of Cincinnati, University of Toledo, or Wentworth Institute of technology. HAHPERD Scholarship Program is offering a $750 scholarship to seniors planning on pursuing a degree in health, physical education, recreation, and dance, with a specific focus on education. Go to www.hahperd.org for more information. Deadline is March 1, 2012.
Hispanic Scholarship Fund: This website offers a number of scholarships that are open to students of Hispanic ancestry who, have minimum 3.0 GPA and plan on attending an accredited 2 or 4 year college or university during the 2001-2011 school year. Western Undergraduate Exchange: WUE is the Western Undergraduate Exchange, a program coordinated by the Western Interstate Commission for Higher Education (WICH). Through WUE, students in Western states may enroll in participating two year and four year public college programs at a reduced tuition level: up to 150 percent of the institutions regular resident tuition. In all cases WUE tuition is considerably less than nonresident tuition. Students should log on to http://wue.wiche.edu/ for more information.
Charles H. Reid Memorial Scholarship for incoming freshmen at the University of Hawaii at Manoa. $1,000 scholarship available for students who display outstanding scholastic achievement in school sciences courses, show evidence of leadership, moral character, and dedication to the welfare of animals, environment, and people, and who want to pursue a degree in veterinary medicine. Mark Your Calendars
A scholarship help and writing techniques workshop will be held in the SAS library on Tuesday, Nov. 22 from 6-7:30pm. Parents and students invited.
College Goal Sunday offers free help with the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) for parents and students. The FAFSA helps students to qualify for federal financial aid and state and private scholarships. Bring a 2011 IRS Tax Return (if completed) or bring W-2 Forms and other 2011 income and benefits info. Date: January 29, 2012 @ 1:00pm at the Maui College-Pa’ina Building, Maui Culinary Academy. UH at Hilo Chancellor’s Scholarship is offering four-year tuition scholarships to academically and personally distinguished Hawaii high school graduates. Criteria: be accepted by UH Hilo, have a GPA of 3.5 or better, or 1800 SAT (reading, writing, and math), or a composite score of 27 on the ACT, and demonstrate leadership and/or community service. The College of Mount Saint Vincent, located in Riverdale, NY is offering all graduates from Catholic high schools an $8,000 annual grant to the college. Marianist Leadership Scholars Program from the University of Dayton offer a renewable $4,000 scholarship per year. Events to Attend
Gates Millennium Scholarship Information Session- Friday, Nov. 18th @ 10:00 in the library. Scholarships for students who are African American, American Indian/Alaska Native, Asian American, Pacific Islander, or of Hispanic American ethnicity. Gates scholarships are exclusive, yet pay for a student’s education up to a PhD. level.
Asian & Pacific Islander American Scholarships range from $2,500-$10,000 for students of Asian and/or Pacific Islander ethnicity. Come to the information session on Friday, Nov. 18th @10:00 in the library.
Free Application for Federal Student Aid informal information session to help parents complete and file for the FAFSA on December 15th from 6-7:30pm in the SAS library. Mrs. Cathy Bio will be among other presenters to answer and FAFSA questions.
Scholarship Informational Evening on January 10th from 5:30-7:00 pm in the SAS library. A representative from Kamehameha Schools and the Economic Opportunity Department from the University of Hawaii Maui Campus will focus on scholarship help.
Military Scholarships: Sergeant Gates from the Air Force will be visiting on November 28th during lunch at the SAS library to discuss various military scholarships and answer any student questions.

Hawaii Community Foundation offers over 150 various scholarships to students seeking a higher education. Application available online Dec. 1, 2011 from www.hawaiicommunityfoundation.org. Must do the FAFSA and have a Student Aid Report (SAR), a personal statement, transcripts, letters of recommendation, and an essay in some cases. Deadline is Feb. 17, 2012.
AXA Achievement Community Scholarship offers scholarships of $2,000 to students who are active in their community, have overcome personal challenges, and help others. Go to www.axa-achievement.com for more info. Deadline is Feb. 1, 2012.
ACT High School Poster Contest is offering up to $5,000 for college to students who create a winning creative poster. Go to www.actstudent.org/postercontest. Deadline is Jan. 28, 2012.
JFK Profile in Courage Essay Contest asks high school students to consider the concept of political courage by writing an essay on a U.S. elected official who has chosen to do what is right, rather than what is expedient. A “Profile in Courage” essay is a carefully researched recounting of a story: the story of how an elected official risked his or her career to take a stand based on the dictates of conscience, rather than the dictates of polls, interest groups or even constituents. 1st place is $10,000, 2nd place is $1,000, and five finalists will win $500. The Martin Luther King Jr. Scholar Program at Ithaca College is offering full tuition in aid with a minimum merit-based scholarship of $25,000 (renewable annually for up to 4 years). Open to academically talented students from ethnic and racial backgrounds that have been historically underrepresented in U.S. higher education. The College of Idaho’s Visionary Scholars Prgram offers a $10,000 annual, renewable award. Must have at least a 3.0 cumulative GPA, a minimum 22 ACT composite score or 1030 SAT score (critical reading and math) and be a resident of California, Colorado, Hawaii or New England. Maui Chapter of the Hawaii Society of Professional Engineers: Seniors who will be entering an accredited college of engineering can qualify for a $1000 or a $700 academic scholarship. Deadline: January 27th, 2012. Pick up an application in the counseling office.
Horatio Alger Association Scholarship: For students who possess the character to succeed in life. Seniors who are planning on enrolling in a bachelor’s degree program next year, whose family shows a critical financial need, are U.S. citizens, have a GPA minimum of 2.0 and who are involved in co-curricular and community activities, please apply by October 30, 2011. Fireside Catholic Publishing is offering a $1000 cash award for writing a 750-word essay describing how religious education is influencing your life. Only one entrant per school, so submit your essay to the counseling department. Deadline: December 19, 2011.
Boston University Trustee Scholarship Competition: Do you have outstanding academic ability and the potential to inspire your fellow students to excel? Earn a four-year, full-tuition scholarship to Boston University. Go to bu.edu/admissions/trustee for more information. Deadline: December 1, 2011.
