The Guidance and Counseling Department at
Saint Anthony Junior Senior High School exists for one purpose:
to assist students and teachers. It is important that students
and parents become aware of the services provided by the department
such as:
- To provide a safe environment for each
student to share obstacles, problems, and difficulties that
may arise during the adolescent years. Students should find
the counselors to be accepting and compassionate toward
their needs by teaching students coping skills, accepting
responsibility, dealing with conflicts, relating with others,
and problem solving. Counselors are bound by law to keep
information shared in a counseling session confidential.
- To prepare each student for adult choices
by giving him/her a responsible share in his/her education.
This is done in many ways, especially by allowing the student
to choose his/her own program and by helping him/her to
develop habits of self-discipline and correct decision-making.
- To prepare the student
for a future where change will be the natural state of society.
Students should be helped to find their place in a dynamic,
ever changing world of information and viewpoints. They
should be able to recognize problems caused by the fact
that people now change many times during their lives, and
they should be aware of possible solutions to these problems.
- To prepare the
student for the immediate future through regular guidance
about continued education and a means of financing that
education.
