logoIntroduction:

St. Anthony Junior - Senior High School has continued to provide quality Catholic education in the Marianist spirit to young men and women on Maui for over 160 years. St. Anthony is an ‘ohana- a living and dynamic community of sharing and learning where academic competence, commitment to faith-filled service, social awareness, and leadership skills are developed.

Today, we have an opportunity to build on this foundation and ensure that future generations of students have the opportunity to receive this same gift.

Over the next five years St. Anthony Junior - Senior High School will focus on establishing an endowment of $9.5 million and $500,000 for the “Now Fund” which will go towards immediate needs. The funds from our endowments will help create affordable education through scholarships and financial assistance, and also bolster faculty attraction, retention, and development. A successful Phase I will help secure our future and build momentum for a Phase II campus redevelopment campaign.

Financial Assistance Fund - $4,000,000:

The first element of our $10 million campaign is a $5 million Affordable Catholic Education Endowment. Of the $5 million, $4 million will be designated towards our Financial Assistance Fund. The monies received from this endowment will enable St. Anthony to increase the number of families who will qualify for financial assistance, reducing the amount now taken from the operation budget by 90%.

Academic Merit Scholarships - $700,000:

Twelve partial Academic Merit Scholarships will be awarded annually to incoming 7th graders and outstanding 8th-12th graders who maintain a high grade point average. These merit scholarships will help in recruiting new students and awarding those committed to academic excellence.

Special Achievement Awards Fund - $300,000:

imageSt. Anthony is home to numerous clubs and athletic teams who have historically done well in island, state and nation-wide competitions.  The Special Achievement Awards Fund will ensure that any St. Anthony teams or clubs that must travel to participate in higher levels of competition can focus their energies on exemplary performance rather than on fund-raising to meet expenses.

logoFaculty Endowment

Administrator’s Fund - $1,000,000:

The Faculty Endowment Fund will ensure all faculty members are compensated and awarded for the outstanding work that they do.  Over the next five years, the proceeds from this fund will allow St. Anthony to increase average teacher salaries by 25%, helping us to attract and retain quality educators.

DSCN1332.JPGChair for Teacher Awards Fund - $2,000,000:

Over $10,000 in bonuses will be awarded each year to four outstanding teachers within different tiers of experience.  Students, parents or peers can nominate a teacher and our Board of Directors will choose recipients annually.  These bonuses will range from $1,250 to $5,000 depending on the teachers’ years with the school.

Faculty Development Fund - $1,000,000:
Learning does not end once a teacher receives his or her degree; the art of teaching continually develops and changes. Technology and techniques are also changing at a rapid pace.  The Faculty Development Fund will enable St. Anthony’s faculty to attend workshops and seminars to improve their skills.  This fund will also provide the opportunity for teachers to seek advanced academic degrees and experiences.

Faculty Recruitment Fund - $500,000:

The Faculty Recruitment Fund will enable St. Anthony administrators or board members to actively recruit teachers from all over the country.  This fund would also allow St. Anthony to provide incentive packages for outstanding candidates.

A successful campaign will enable St. Anthony to assist more students in receiving a Catholic Education and will help our school to recruit and retain highly qualified and dedicated faculty.

To make this vision a reality, the campaign will need support from the entire St. Anthony `ohana. We ask that everyone commit to a 5-year pledge according to their financial circumstances to help us reach our $10 million goal.  |

Below is a gift table to illustrate examples of how a 5-year pledge is completed:

What is an endowment?
An endowed gift is one that the School will hold in perpetuity. The gift is invested with only a portion of its annual investment return being used to fund the case elements outlined above. To guard against the eroding consequences of inflation, the remaining investment return is added to the principle. The goal is to ensure that the principle maintains its value over time. Thus, a donor who creates an endowed gift today can be confident that it will grow and continue to support Saint Anthony Junior – Senior High School for years to come.

How much of the endowments annual investment return will be reinvested back into the endowment?
The reinvestment policy states that no less than 10% of the annual investment return will be reinvested back into the endowment. Donors may set the annual investment return reinvestment percentage rate of their gifts according to the following table.

How do I know that my donation to this campaign will go towards the elements outlined in the case for support?
Saint Anthony Junior Senior High School is going to great lengths to ensure that the funds raised for this campaign will be used exclusively for the elements outlined in the campaign case for support. Monies collected will be kept separate from the School’s general account.

With uncertainty and volatility in the financial markets, why should we rely on endowment to ensure the future of Saint Anthony’s?
Endowment enables the School to establish a firm financial foundation of which can be built upon.

  • Over the past 10 years educational endowments have still realized a 6.5% average rate of return even through the “Dot Com” bust, the real estate downturn, and the financial system crash.
  • Not only does the endowment grow through reinvestment, but also through the addition of new gifts.
  • Most independent schools rely on their endowments spendable income for a portion of their operating budgets.
  • Even public school systems are establishing endowments.

Why is the initial payment of 10% of the total pledge encouraged?
With all of the great advantages of an endowment there comes one challenge, we can only use the spendable income from the annual investment return. If there is no money invested then there will be no spendable income to fund the different campaign elements. The sooner we collect money, the sooner the endowment can have a positive impact on our students, families, and faculty.

Are there different ways to fulfill my pledge?
Yes.  Donors to the campaign can fulfill their pledges through several different vehicles, which include: Check/Cash, Credit Card, Stock Transfer, Real Estate, Personal Property, Bequest, Life Insurance, and other Planned Gifts.
