Technology

Our Technology program is among the most advanced of any high school on the island of Maui. Due to the generous donations of St. Anthony parents and alumni, we are able to support five computer labs that house state-of-the-art equipment.

Adhering to the Marianist principle of educating for adaptation and change, the Technology Department enables students to demonstrate competency in the ever-evolving field of computer science. The department provides students with the tools and skills necessary to learn the functionality of hardware, software, and their related peripherals. Students gather, present, and generate data in a creative, logical, and efficient manner while exercising personal responsibility, integrity, and self-discipline.

Saint Anthony’s computer science curriculum is based on the premise that students today will be using computers daily as they continue their education, graduate, attend college, and join the work force. No matter what their chosen profession, Saint Anthony students will have the foundation required to effectively use technology to their advantage.

Course work is designed to impart practical skills and current information that is of immediate value and use. Emphasis is placed on learning by doing — as much time as possible is spent with hands-on computer experience. Theoretical information is based on the practical implications with relevancy of paramount concern.

Besides introductory courses in computer science, Saint Anthony offers several levels of Computer Application programs including Web development, graphic design, computer animation, desktop publishing, interface design, digital video editing, and object oriented programming. Many of these classes are student directed which means that the students work at their pace and are able to move up as the reach their maximum potential at each level.

Recently added to the curriculum are preparation courses for the MOUS (Microsoft Office User Specialist) and CompTIA A+ Hardware and Software Certification Exams. These certifications distinguish students from their peers as truly knowledgeable in these subject areas, while giving world-recognized validation of learning and competency in a specified area of industry standard. Such certification could be an asset when applying to colleges and universities, as well as to help with job placement and advancement.
