Religious Studies

The mission of the religion department at St. Anthony is to foster an understanding in the students of the Christian vision of the world, as well as to provide the students with opportunities to participate in and act upon their understanding of their role in this vision.

The aspects of this Christian vision that the department stresses are the development of a relationship with God, the clarification of values, and the building of community in the Marianist tradition of ohana.

In addition to the role of teaching and molding of the basic concepts of this vision, other roles are fulfilled by teachers, including offering opportunities for service to others, supporting families in their role as the primary spiritual and moral educators of children, and providing opportunities for the personal spiritual growth of the students.

Goals:

  • To provide curriculum that develops and fosters an understanding of and appreciation for all of creation as it reflects God’s goodness and care.
  • To establish a curriculum that assists students in recognizing their role in bringing forth the Christian vision of a community sharing in the mission of Jesus Christ, the son of God, become the Son of Mary for the salvation of all. The mission of Jesus Christ involves a commitment, which is manifested by: a faith sharing; a spirit of love for one another; engaging in a common effort in developing a Christian commitment in others to participate in the Church’s apostolic mission.
  • To present information which enhances the students’ understanding of their values and the effect their choices have on the Christian vision.
To provide resources in conjunction with the Campus Ministry that will enhance the students’ participation in communal celebrations and service within the larger community.
  • To be models of adults who support each other in their struggle to be authentic examples of individuals who live the Christian vision.
  • To exhibit a hospitable and cooperative spirit that recognizes and supports the parents in their role as primary educators in the moral and spiritual formation of their children.
