Present: Diane Roberts, Elisa and Jeffrey Rummel, Kathleen DeLima, Kathy Raikes, Kathy Fujihara, Rosie Johnson, Robbie Redeker, Stacey Williams, Joanne Moniz and Maria Hughes
I. Meeting called to order at 6:00 p.m. by Diane Roberts
Diane offered the opening prayer
II Acceptance of Minutes of September 8, 2010 meeting. Motion to accept by Robbie, seconded by Elisa.
III. Old Business
Flag Poles - Diane spoke with Mr. Tafao who felt that the 50 ft. middle pole would be too large in comparison to the two other 30 ft. poles. The large pole had been donated by a previous St. Anthony class. Mr. Tafao will check with members of that class to see if it would be acceptable to have the pole cut to a 40 ft. length. PTG has already budgeted the funds to have the poles erected and the concrete foundations are in place.
"Chat with Pat". The meeting with Principal Patricia Rickard is scheduled for the second Tuesday of the month from 7:30-8:00 a.m. To date only Diane and Ms. Rickard have attended the meetings. It was suggested that a topic for each meeting be set and that the topic be shown on the school marquee and the website. Ms. DeLima will look into having the meeting announcement shown on the marquee.
Back To School Night. This event received a very positive response from the administration, faculty, parents and students. Those who placed their names on the sign-up sheets will be contacted to participate at the dinner auction, breakfast and bake sale, etc. Many of the students requested that ice cream be served at future back to school night events.
Teachers Wish List. Diane reviewed the wish list completed by the teachers and circulated copies to the Board members which included thank-you notes from the teachers. The total cost of the items given to date was $1,300. Before the Christmas break in December, the teachers will be ask if they need additional items.
Ohana Directory. This year the information required for completion of the parent/student directory was made a part of the registration process. 95 parents out of 154 students provided the required information, and 25 of those asked that the information not be published. Diane can provide a copy of the directory in spreadsheet form either via e-mail or a hard copy.
IV New Business
Community Service booth at the Maui County Fair. Ms. DeLima thought that the booth was a success and was staffed adequately by the students. The booth demonstrated that St. Anthony is still a visible, thriving institution and is an important part of the community.
ESCRIP. Rosie advised that she had phoned parents to see if they would enroll in the ESCRIP program. She found that many of them do no shop regularly at Safeway, and Kathy Fujihara commented that the registration procedure is difficult (apparently Safeway uses receipt codes rather than the numbers that appear on the savings cards). Ms. DeLima apologized for the problems and said that she would look into making the program more user-friendly.
Bi-Laws. PTG does have by-laws; Ms. DeLima advised that she these in her computer system and will provide a copy to Diane. Diane expressed concern that the Board did not have a current vice-president and was not certain if this was an appointed or elected position.
Christmas lunch for the teachers. Diane advised that this had been held on the second day of finals last year. A lunch of salmon and chicken picata was provided with up-scale table covers, cutlery, etc. Father Jim paid for the cost of the meal (approximately $200) and PTG gave each of the teachers a $50 Walmart gift card. Due to budgetary constraints, the school will not be able to pay for the meal, and there was a discussion as to whether the gift card amount should remain at $50 or be reduced. Joanne suggested that we consider a gift card to the Queen Kaahumanu shopping center which would provide the teachers with a wider choice of shopping, dining, movies, etc.
PTG auction item for the November 6 fundraiser. Ms. DeLima indicated that a live auction item would be preferable. A number of different items were suggested along with a "raise the paddle" portion of the live auction where bidders could designate that funds be donated to the science, music, athletic, etc. departments. No final decision was reached on the PTG auction item.
Finally Ms. DeLima advised of the following: 1) the Victorino Foundation had awarded a $25,000 grant to St. Anthony; 2) to date 247 persons had confirmed their attendance at the November fundraiser (capacity will be limited to 300); 3) by 12/31/10, the Capital Campaign hopes to have a finalized commitment of $5 million in funds which will then allow the school to approach foundations and similar organizations for additional funding; 4) the breakfast and bake sale is still on schedule; and 5) the St. Anthony School board has asked PTG to host a student information night where the Finance Committee will advise prospective students/parents regarding the ways that a private Catholic education can be funded. This meeting will probably be held in January, 2011.
V. Treasurer's Report - the PTG account has a current balance of $8,843.31
The meeting was adjourned at 7:30 p.m. The next PTG meeting will be held on November 17, 2010 at 6:00 p.m.

III. New Business:
Introduction of New Principal Mrs. Rickard – Mrs. Rickard expressed her enthusiasm for the new school year and spoke highly about the new school board that supports the school. The school has had to streamline its expenses as well as develop an actual based budget for the next three years. The school no longer has an IT person on staff as everything has been outsourced to Chaminade University. The SAS website is constantly being updated and revamped by school staff Mr. Knoyle & Mr. Villi. Right now, the school has 154 students and is working hard to reach its goal of 170 students. The capital campaign is kicking up again and Fr. Orsini’s goal is to raise $180,000. The school has adopted a policy of all calls into the school’s mainline are answered by an actual person instead of the phone system. Mrs. Rickard answers the phone system daily from 7 – 7:30 a.m. and there after the staff take turns. All staff members are motivated for the success of the students and school.
Breakfast bake Sale/Alumni Sunday – Kathleen reported that the school will be doing an event every three months and the next event coming up is the Dinner Auction. The Dinner Auction will be at the King Kamehameha Club House on November 6th. The school board will be taking over the planning of this event next year and the Alumni will be taking over the Hoo’laulea.
Breakfast Bake sale – We are looking to hold our annual Breakfast Bake sale during Catholic School week and hope to have 100% participation by keeping everyone informed via email blasts, newsletter or flyer in Church newsletter. We are looking to have the band perform for 50 minutes, bingo, baked goods, plants and veggies for sale also.
