The Living In Faith Experience, better known as LIFE, is a leadership and ministry workshop for high school students who are juniors and seniors to be in the next school year. Schools and parishes from across the US are represented at LIFE Pacific. Those represented this 2011 year were: St. Louis High School (O’ahu), Sacred Hearts (O’ahu), Maryknoll High (O’ahu), Archbishop Riordan High (California), Chaminade  College Preparatory (California), St. John Vianney High School (Missouri), St. Anthony Jr. Sr. High School (Maui).

The Marianist LIFE program first spouted roots in the mid-sixties. A group of students attended workshops to enhance their faith and learn about the Marianist Charisms. The word spread and eventually a group of schools who attended wanted to take the workshops back to their respective schools to create small Christian communities. This, in turn, bubbled into summer retreats to nourish and educate youth in building these small Christian communities. Thirty plus years later, the program is as strong as ever, having 3 LIFE programs that service Marianist schools! LIFE Central meets at Dayton, Ohio. LIFE South meets at San Antonio, TX and LIFE pacific meets in Occidental, California. The LIFE students of each school, upon completion of the summer program, return to their schools to help their campus ministers throughout the next school year. This includes running retreats, helping with mass and other service projects. They are expected to create small group communities with their peers in school or parish.

Life 20011
St. Anthony’s LIFE team usually consists of 8-10 students with 2 adult moderators. A selection committee of former and current moderators and our Administrative Council review LIFE applications in early February. Our team is then selected by the first week of March. Through generous donations, fundraisers and parent support we were able to send 8 students this 2011 summer: Katilin Lopez, Lena Souza, Selina Williams, Jerry Maeda, Bryce Mizoguchi, Isaiah Ragasa, Matthew Matasci and Alicia Ballesteros.  Although she was not able to attend the summer trip, Michelle Rabara also joins the 2011-2012 Team. They were led by adult moderators: Cristina Smith and Mallory Green.  Unfortunately we had to say goodbye to Campus Minister Mallory Green as she starts a new journey, but luckily we have Mr. Everett Yamashita as our new moderator this year. In addition, as Ms. Green is no longer CM, we have a new member who is filling her shoes….Mr. Mosi Tafao. Welcome Mr.Yamashita and Mr. Tafao to the LIFE program. The current LIFE students are excited to unite with the remaining 6 senior LIFERS who attended in 2010: Julia Bissen, Jillian Strong, Ka’eo Kan Hai, Amanda Roberts, Tiana Griffiths and Kaycie Pico. We encourage everyone to support our LIFE program which enhances the life of our student body at St. Anthony Jr. Sr. High School and we thank everyone who continues to support this wonderful program!
